Simple/Surgical Extraction
When at all possible, Smiles Forever works with our patients to help them preserve their natural teeth. Unfortunately, sometimes tooth extractions are a necessity. Common reasons teeth need to be removed include:
- Broken teeth or root fragments
- Severe pain
- Infection or cysts
- Impacted teeth
- Wisdom teeth
- Periodontal disease
- Orthodontic therapy
Recovery
Proper home care will reduce your risk of discomfort and improve recovery. It is important to avoid smoking, drinking through a straw, or consuming carbonated beverages soon after your extraction as these could encourage the formation of a dry socket. Apply a gauze compress or tea bag to the extraction site to decrease bleeding and take medications as directed. Warm salt water rinses are ideal for cleaning the area for the first few days as a toothbrush should be avoided.
Wisdom Teeth
Smiles Forever provides selective wisdom tooth extractions in our office. Our dentists will be happy to discuss their findings with you and whether or not this is recommended. If you are experiencing pain around the wisdom teeth or jaws, schedule a consultation today.
